My New Church Home In Longview

Coming to LeTourneau Unviersity meant making a lot of changes.  One of those changes was finding a new church to attend.  The first couple weeks I visited different churches in Longview.  On the third week of "church hopping", my roommate and I attended Oakland Heights Baptist Church.  We very much enjoyed the college bible study and the worship service.  The congregation was very welcoming.  I felt like I was back at home because of there kindness and hospitality.  We decided we would attend Oakland Heights the next Sunday and then decide if we should make it our church home.
Next Sunday came quickly.  We went to Oakland Heights and enjoyed it again, even though the service schedule and location were changed due to Hurricane Ike's effects on their worship center.  The power had been cut off to the building by a fallen tree, so they moved the service into the fellowship hall in the other building.  The people were still very friendly and hospitable.  After the service I was convinced that Oakland Heights was to be my church home.
Today I attended Oakland Heights and was able to get involved with the worship team.  I was asked to play drums for the service.  I really enjoyed it, and hope that I can continue worshiping God with my talents.  Praise the Lord!

Chemistry challenges

On Tuesday of this week I had chemistry class.  We were learning from chapter two of our text book, which was mostly about naming compounds.  The lecture was being presented very fast, so I had a difficult time understanding the compound naming process.  After the lecture we were told that there would be a quiz on Thursday concerning the naming on compounds.  I knew immediately that I had a lot of studying to do before that quiz.
My studying for chemistry began on Wednesday afternoon.  First I read the chapter and made some mental notes.  Then at five-o'clock, my roommate and I went to a study group for chemistry in the library.  During our time there I was able to write down some good notes on the methods and the way to name compounds was starting to make sense.  We closed our study group at six-fifteen and went to dinner.  Later that evening I once again took out my chemistry and continued studying until it was time to go to bed.  By the end of the day I felt a lot better about the quiz coming up.
Thursday was quiz day, and I was still feeling unsure about my compound naming skills.  I did more studying and made some charts to help me learn.  At twelve-o'clock I had my chemistry quiz.  As soon as I saw it, my fear was confirmed.  I didn't now how to derive the correct answers.  The quiz was very difficult.  I placed educated guesses on the questions I didn't know, hoping that I would maybe get a few of them right, but my gut feeling was that I had failed the quiz.

My First Week At LeTourneau

Classes started on August, twenty-sixth.  The day was filled with confusion, new experiences and excitement.  My first challenge was trying to find all of my classes at the correct time.  Fortunately I had my class schedule with me at all times.  In between every class I dug it out and looked for my next class listing.  Since the twenty-sixth was a Tuesday, I had three classes in a row.  They were Chemistry, Cornerstones and English.  I only had ten minutes between classes, but that was enough for me to get from one class to the other.  My first day of classes went well, and I was excited to be an official college student.
The remainder of the week went smoothly.  I was able to find all of my classes without any trouble, and I was beginning to get used to college life.  I discovered, that I really liked having my classes spread out.  The time between classes was a great time for studying.  Besides classes and studying, I enjoyed the time I had with friends in my dorm.  The close knit setting of our dorm, allowed me to get to know my fellow dorm mates better.  Also, our evenings together in the dorm were a fun time to interact with each other.  One thing that I realized after I had classes for a couple days, was that I was going to need good time management.  In order for me to succeed I needed to balance my time.  Due to that realization, I started to develop a schedule that maximized my time.  College life was going well, and I could not wait to see what would happen next.
